August 7, 2015 — Viking Range, LLC has expanded a recall that began in 2012 for dishwashers that can potentially overheat and catch on fire.
In April 2012, Viking recalled about 2,000 of the 24-inch Professional, Designer, and Custom Panel built-in dishwashers after receiving 21 incident reports, including five fires that caused property damage.
According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), the problem has been linked to a defective connector: “An electrical component in the dishwasher can overheat, posing a fire hazard.”
The original built-in dishwasher recall involved Viking dishwashers made between May and September 2010. No injuries were reported.
Now, Viking is adding another 17,300 dishwashers to the recall. The company has received 136 incident reports, including 21 fires that caused property damage. No one has reported an injury from the fires.
The recalled dishwashers were made before April 1, 2011. Model numbers are located on the identification plate mounted on the inside on the left side of the dishwasher door opening.
The recall includes model numbers starting with DDB200, FDB200, VDB200, DFB450 and date codes before 120110 (December 1, 2010). The recall also includes model numbers VDB450 VDB325 or DDB325 with date codes before 040111 (April 1, 2011).
The products were sold from July 2008 through March 2012 and cost between $1,225 to $2,000. Customers should not use the dishwashers and should contact the company for a free at-home repair by calling 800-241-7239.
