Vitamix Blender Parts Recalled After Blades Cut 27 People
In June 2024, Vitamix reannounced and expanded a recall of certain Ascent® and Venturist® series 8-ounce and 20-ounce blending containers and blade bases due to an injury hazard.
What is the Problem?
Vitamix warned that the blending containers can separate from the blade bases, exposing the blades, which poses a risk of lacerations (cuts). There were 27 reports of people who suffered lacerations, including 11 injuries that were reported in the original recall in 2018.
What Happened?
All of these injuries occurred when consumers’ hands came into contact with the exposed blades, according to Vitamix.
Expanded Recall Includes Repaired Blender Parts
The expanded recall includes all Venturist and Ascent 20-oz. and 8-oz. blending containers and blade bases, includes those that were repaired as part of the original recall in 2018.
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled blender parts were sold nationwide at Costco, Best Buy, Crate & Barrel, Macy’s, Target, Williams Sonoma, Walmart, other stores, and online from April 2017 through May 2024.
How To Identify Recalled Vitamix Parts
The recall involves Vitamix® Ascent® and Venturist® Series 8-Ounce Blending Bowls, 20-Ounce Blending Cups, and Blade Bases.
The clear containers and black blade bases are included with certain Vitamix Venturist and Ascent blenders, such as the Venturist V1200, Ascent A2300, Ascent A2500, Ascent A3300 and Ascent A3500 blenders, and also sold separately, as sets, or in bundles.
What Should I Do?
Vitamix is offering a free repair kit with new parts that consumers can easily install themselves. The repair kit consists of a protective plastic shroud to attach over the blade base and new instructional labels.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled 8-ounce and 20-ounce blending containers and blade bases and install the protective plastic shroud, as well as the additional instruction labels.
