December 8, 2023 — Freshness Guaranteed® Chicken Fried Rice bowls that were sold at Walmart have been recalled after a product tested positive for Listeria bacteria.
The recall was issued by Garland Ventures, a Texas-based company that supplies food products to Walmart.
The recall involves approximately 13,842 pounds of chicken fried rice bowls that were produced on November 10, 2023.
The product was sold in 12-oz. trays containing Freshness Guaranteed® brand “CHICKEN FRIED RICE DICED CHICKEN MEAT WITH VEGETABLES AND RICE IN A SAVORY SOY SAUCE” with lot code 595874884 and a best-by date of 11/10/2024
No illnesses were reported, but a bowl tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause severe food poisoning.
Health officials are concerned that this product may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Listeria can survive freezing and grow on food that is in the refrigerator. Food that is contaminated may not look or smell spoiled, but eating it can cause a serious infection.
In pregnant women, the Listeria infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. Listeria infections can also spread beyond the gastrointestinal system and cause sepsis, meningitis, or death.
