Further testing determined that it is the same strain of Listeria that is linked to a Listeria outbreak linked to meats sliced at delis.

How to Identify Recalled Deli Meat

Boar’s Head recalled all deli products, including pre-packaged deli products, within shelf life. Look for “EST. 12612” or “P-12612” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product labels.

This expanded recall includes 71 products that were produced between May 10, 2024, and July 29, 2024, and sold nationwide under the Boar’s Head® and Old Country® brand names.

These items include meat intended for slicing at retail delis as well as some pre-packaged meat and poultry products sold at retail locations. These products have “sell by” dates ranging from 29-JUL-2024 through 17-OCT-24.

Listeria Food Poisoning Infections

Deli meat is a recurrent source of Listeria contamination, with deadly outbreaks reported in January 2021 and again in November 2022, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

What is the Risk?

People who eat deli meat that is contaminated with Listeria can develop symptoms as soon as the same day, but it can take up to 70 days for symptoms to appear. The infection can spread beyond the intestines and into the brain and spinal cord. Infections also commonly cause pregnancy complication like a miscarriage or stillbirth.
