Dole Issues Another Major Salad Recall for Listeria Risk

Dole Issues Another Major Salad Recall for Listeria Risk

January 10, 2022 — Yet another major recall has been issued by Dole Fresh Vegetables for bagged salads that may contain deadly Listeria bacteria.

This time, Dole recalled 72 types of packaged salads containing iceberg lettuce that were processed at two facilities: Springfield, Ohio, and Soledad, California.

Dole issued the recall after finding Listeria bacteria on harvesting equipment that was used to harvest raw iceberg lettuce that was used in the salads. No illnesses were reported.

The recall involves a wide variety of bagged salads, mixed greens, and salad kits that were sold in dozens of states.

They were sold at major grocery stores, such as Walmart, HEB, Kroger, ALDI, and the Kroger family (Fred Meyer, QFC, Ralph’s, Food 4 Less, and more).

Salads that were recalled from Springfield, OH can be identified by a product lot code beginning with the letter “W” and a “Best if Used By” date between December 22, 2021 and January 9, 2022.

Salads that were recalled from Soledad, CA can be identified by a product lot code beginning with the letter “B” and a “Best if Used By” date between December 23, 2021 and January 8, 2022.

In the past two months, Dole has issued two other major recalls for salads that may contain Listeria. In November 2021, Dole recalled garden salads in 10 states after a product tested positive for Listeria. No illnesses were reported.

But in December 2021, Dole recalled all salads from two facilities (Bessemer City, NC, and Yuma, AZ) after health officials linked them to a deadly outbreak of Listeria infections in 13 states, with illnesses dating as far back as August 2014. At least two people died after eating the contaminated Dole salads, according to the CDC.
