UPDATE: Best Buy Recalls Another 187,000 Insignia Air Fryers
In March 2024, Best Buy recalled another 187,400 Insignia® Air Fryers and Air Fryer Ovens because they can catch on fire or cause severe burn injuries and lacerations. Best Buy received 24 reports of overheating/melting or glass shattering, including 6 reports of the air fryers catching on fire. According to the recall warning:
The air fryers can overheat, causing the handles to melt or break, posing fire and burn hazards. Additionally, the air fryer ovens can overheat and the glass on the door can shatter, posing fire, burn and laceration hazards.
The recall involves Insignia Air Fryers and Insignia Air Fryer Ovens, model numbers NS-AF34D2, NS-AF5DSS2, NS-AF5MSS2, NS-AF8DBD2, NS-AF10DBK2, and NS-AF10DSS2. They were sold Best Buy stores nationwide and online at www.bestbuy.com, www.eBay.com, and third-party sellers from November 2021 through November 2023 for between $32 and $180.
Insignia Air Fryer Recall
April 21, 2022 — Best Buy Purchasing LLC issued a recall for about 635,000 Insignia® Air Fryers and Air Fryer Ovens due to serious fire and burn hazards.
Insignia Air Fryers were recalled after more than 100 reports of the air fryers overheating, catching on fire, or causing burn injuries, including one child who was injured on their leg.
Best Buy said it received 68 reports from U.S. consumers and 36 reports from Canadian consumers of the air fryers catching on fire, burning or melting. There were 7 reports of minor property damage and 2 reports of injuries, including an injury to a child’s leg.
The recalled Insignia® Air Fryers and Air Fryer Ovens have cooking chamber capacities ranging from approximately 3.4 to 10 quarts (3.9 to 11.4 liters).
The products have plastic or plastic and stainless-steel bodies in black and stainless-steel finishes. The brand name INSIGNIA is on the top or front of each unit.
The air fryers and air fryer ovens were sold between November 2018 and February 2022 at Best Buy stores nationwide in the U.S. and Canada (click here for Health Canada’s recall).
In the U.S., the recall involves products with the following model numbers:
- Air Fryers: NS-AF32DBK9, NS-AF32MBK9, NS-AF50MBK9, NS-AF53DSS0, NS-AF53MSS0, and NS-AF55DBK9
- Air Fryer Ovens: NS-AFO6DBK1 and NS-AFO6DSS1
What Should I Do?
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled air fryers and call Best Buy at 800-566-7498 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to arrange a return. Consumers will receive a credit of $50 or the amount on the purchase receipt if higher.
