PurSteam Steamers Recalled for Serious Burn Hazards
In February 2026, a recall was announced for about 200,000 PurSteam Steamers after more than 50 reports of burn injuries, including some serious burns.
According to the manufacturer:
“The steamers can expel hot water from the steam nozzle during use, posing a serious burn hazard to consumers.”
PurSteam Steamer Recall
The recall involves PurSteam® Elite Travel Steamers (Model PS-510) and PurSteam® Mighty Lil Steamers (Model PS-550). PurSteam was acquired by a company called Aterian in December 2020.
Aterian is only recalling products purchased after December 2020 with one of the following date codes: 2310, 2308, 2305, 2304, 2303, 2212, 2211, 2210, 2203, 2112, 2111, 2110, 0221, 1019, and 4619.
PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer Recall
The recall involves about 119,000 PurSteam® Mighty Lil Steamers (Model PS-550). They were sold from December 2020 through January 2024.
PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamers were linked to more than 40 reports of burn injuries, including 2nd-degree burns. According to the recall:
“Between December 2020 and 2024, there were 392 reports of hot water being expelled from the PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS-550, including 40 reports of burn injuries, two of which were reported as second-degree burns.”
Aterian said it is aware of more reports of burn injuries and incidents involving hot water being expelled from the steamers before it acquired the PurSteam company in December 2020.
PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer Recall
The recall also involves about 75,400 PurSteam® Elite Travel Steamers (Model PS510). They were sold from from December 2020 through April 2025 on Pursteam.com, Amazon.com and Walmart.com.
PurSteam Elite Travel Steamers were linked to 80 reports of hot water being expelled from the nozzle, including 14 reports of burn injuries. There were additional reports of burn injuries before December 2020.
What Should I Do?
Aterian is urging customers to immediately stop using the recalled steamers. You can visit the recall website at https://recall.pursteam.com/ to verify if your steamer is affected by the recall, and register for a full refund of the purchase price.
Millions of Clothing Steamers Recalled, 100+ Burn Injuries Reported
In recent years, millions of handheld clothing steamers have been recalled by a variety of manufacturers. These products are also known as handheld garment steamers or clothing steamers. They may be used at home, or during travel to quickly eliminate wrinkles on delicate fabrics.
Clothing steamers have been linked to more than 100 reports of burn injuries when hot water shot out, leaked, sprayed, or was expelled from the steam nozzle.
