January 17, 2020 — Summer Infant’s SwaddleMe By Your Bed Sleeper poses a risk of suffocation for babies, according to a warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The SwaddleMe By Your Bed Sleeper is an inclined bassinet that is manufactured by Summer Infant Inc. (USA). No recall has been issued yet, but the CPSC is pressing the company to issue a recall.
The CPSC previously warned parents to stop using all inclined sleeper products in October 2019, following reports of at least 73 babies who died when they rolled over and suffocated.
No incidents have been linked to the SwaddleMe By Your Bed Sleeper, but CPSC warns that it poses a similar suffocation hazard as other inclined sleepers that have been linked to dozens of deaths.
Last year, millions of inclined sleepers were recalled, including the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play, Kids II Rocking Sleepers, and other bassinets. Major retailers like Amazon, Buy Buy Baby, and Walmart have banned all sales of inclined sleeping products for babies.
Experts continue to emphasize that the best place for a baby to sleep is on a firm, flat surface in a crib, bassinet, or play yard, without blankets, pillows, or other items due to a risk of suffocation and death.
