Walmart Fruit Recalled for Listeria Risk
On October 3, 2020, Walmart expanded a recall for a variety of Freshness Guaranteed® fruit bowls due to a risk of Listeria. The expanded recall includes products with cut and/or sliced apples, grapes, mangos, pineapples, and cantaloupe.
The original recall on October 1, 2020, included Freshness Guaranteed® watermelon chunks, watermelon spears, and “Summer Blend” mixed fruit bowls with watermelon.
FDA Finds Listeria at County Fresh Manufacturing Facility
No illnesses were reported as of October 3, but infections with Listeria can be very serious — particularly for pregnant women and people with vulnerable immune systems.
Country Fresh packaged the fruit for distribution to Walmart. The recalls were issued after FDA tests at a Country Fresh facility were positive for Listeria on equipment used to pack watermelon. Furthermore, Listeria was also found on equipment near where the other recalled fruit products were packed.
