The Power Pressure Cooker XL is an electric pressure cooker made by the “As Seen on TV” company Tristar Products, Inc. In recent years, the company has been sued by a number of consumers who say it can explode and severely burn anyone nearby.

In June 2015, a federal lawsuit (PDF) was filed in Florida against Tristar by a woman and her husband who suffered 2nd-degree burns when the cooker exploded hot soup (Case No. 1:15-cv-22364).

Another lawsuit (PDF) was filed by a woman from Texas (Case No. 1:15-cv-00108). The first time she used the cooker, it exploded pinto beans. She was severely burned and permanently scarred. According to the lawsuit:

“Approximately two hours after unplugging the cooker, suddenly and without warning, the lid blew off of the cooker, and the pinto beans burst out of the cooker onto Mrs. Vasquez, resulting in extensive and severe burns to her body.”

Woman Airlifted to Burn Center After Pressure Cooker Explodes

Can I Join a Class Action?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm. However, our trial lawyers are not currently filing a class action for victims of exploding pressure cookers. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits.

About Class Actions

Class actions are useful when a lot of people have similar injuries. They can join together and collectively seek compensation. Any payout awarded by a jury or settlement is divided and shared equally.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

There can be disadvantages to joining a class action for people with severe injuries. They may have to accept a “low-ball” settlement or higher attorneys’ fees.

Class actions are not designed to maximize compensation for people with the worst injuries from a dangerous product. This is why our lawyers file individual lawsuits. We focus our efforts on helping victims of defective products seek compensation for their pain and suffering, medical expenses, and more.
